About MapTools for Australia

MapTools for Australia is the Australian branch of the MapTools family - free, privacy-first mapping tools, already running at maptools.uk for the UK and at maptools.co for the US. It's built from the ground up for Australia, not a US or UK tool with the labels changed.

What's live

11 tools are live and free to use, spanning Australian postcodes, straight-line and drive-time distance, land area, elevation, dark sky sites, public toilets, and multi-stop route planning - see the homepage for the current toolset. More are on the way.

Where the data comes from

Address and postcode data comes from Australian sources built for this purpose: the Geoscape Geocoded National Address File (G-NAF), licensed by the Commonwealth of Australia, and the Australian Bureau of Statistics' Postal Areas boundaries. Both are used under their respective open-data licences, with attribution on the tools that use them.

Privacy First

Free tools run in your browser, and we don't store or log what you search. Looking up an Australian address or postcode does fetch the data for that area from our own servers, so a lookup isn't purely local, but nothing about your search is kept. Full detail is in our Privacy Policy, which currently covers the whole maptools.co domain including this section.

Who's building this

MapTools is built and maintained by Dan. The AU site is a deliberate extension of the existing US and UK sites, not a separate project - same privacy-first principles, same free-forever model, built properly for Australian data rather than rushed out.
